Our wedding film love story
How did you guys meet?
John owned a Pub, Claire and her friends drunk in there. John first noticed her bum when she walked in the room! They became friends over the months at first, mainly confiding in each other with long chats whilst each of them going through some hard times. From that, their relationship blossomed, and they were officially a couple by Dec 2012.
Tell me a bit about the two of you, what do you guys do? How do you spend your time?
Claire is a lawyer; John owns a heating firm. We share a love of Musical Theatre, Good food and fine dining, travel and most of all quality family time. We are the classic example of opposites attracting, as we have very different personalities!
How did the proposal go down? (all the gushy details, I love this bit!)
John proposed to Claire while in Venice, A city they had been to several times before and very much consider it to be their special place.
They had planned to have a meal the night before but went to a bar first for cocktails. The Barman however, had other ideas and, after the first cocktail, John swapped to lager stating the drinks were “far too strong”. Claire decided to brave cocktail number 2. Roll on an hour later….. with Claire trying to climb the lampposts on St Mark’s square. John realised the romantic meal was out of the question. Back at the room, Claire was very ill indeed. And while knelt over the toilet, with sick coming out of her nose, John knew right there and then that Claire was the girl for him!
John proposed to Claire from the Roof terrace of St Marks’ Basilica overlooking St Marks’ Square the next day, using the ring he had smuggled out with him. Claire said yes, but also said “you could have got down on one knee” but John said that “it was raining” and he’d get his knees wet.
How did you choose your wedding venue(s)?
We originally planned to get married in Venice. We changed the plan to the UK due to the bride’s father’s poor heath and difficulty to travel.
The venue was booked, taking into account his needs for access and care. Unfortunately, both the Bride’s father and Groom’s father have passed away since the venue booking was made. We decided to keep the venue in tribute to them, as they were both looking forward to the wedding and knew we were getting married at cooling castle.
What sort of experience do you want your guests to have?
Very much 2 families coming together. After 18 months of Covid, it will be the first time every one is together. We really want our guests to party like it’s their last day on earth. Plenty of alcohol, plenty of dancing, Plenty of fun. Life is all about making memories and this wedding is definitely going to be memorable (we hope!).
Can you describe some of the details and stylings, does your wedding have a theme?
Enchanted Garden them with loads of flowers and floral displays and lots of additional lighting. Pink and white mainly. Cake to be suspended from ceiling on a wire. Live flash mob after speeches.
What was the hardest decision during the planning?
Whether or not move, cancel or keep our wedding date with Covid policies and restrictions constantly changing.
What advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?
How ever long you think its going to take…..Double it. And however much you think its going to cost…… Double that as well!!!
Make every decision together. Take on board what you both want. Most importantly, remember why you are getting married in the first place above all else.
