Our wedding film love story
How did you guys meet?
We met at Waddesdon Secondary School in 2012 where we both attended and were in Year 9 and 10. We have been together for over 10 years since. We’ve been through school, university, jobs, buying a house together, getting engaged and now very nearly married! We have grown up alongside one another and are childhood sweethearts.
Interestingly, once we got together and our families met, we realised there was a connection between the two families dating back decades. My parents and Dan’s parents all grew up in the same area and actually knew/knew of one another. Our grandparents even went to the same school and lived very closely too. When one set of grandparents relocated, the others did too into the same area without even knowing until Dan and I became an item. It was very strange but meant to be and as a result both sides of our families get on so well!
Tell me a bit about the two of you, what do you guys do? How do you spend your time?
Hollie is a primary school teacher and Dan is a Quantity Surveyor. We have spent most of our spare time wedding planning the past 18 months!! But also love going on dog walks around the countryside, seeing family and friends and just generally enjoy being in one another’s company (thankfully!).
How did the proposal go down? (All the gushy details, I love this bit!)
We got engaged on 25/08/2021 in the Isle of Wight, which is a place very special to the both of us, we just love it there. Hollie’s grandparents had a holiday home for 15 years, so she went each year as a child, and once Dan came on the scene 10 years ago, he did too. We went up to a beautiful viewpoint where you can see over the sea for miles called Culver Down. Dan told me to go and find a spot up there while he was in the car park faffing around with camp chairs which I thought was quite strange! By the time he emerged over the hill he proposed on one knee – one of our tables is named Culver Down after this on the wedding day!
How did you choose your wedding venue(s)?
We’ve always liked the idea of getting married at an old English countryside house. When we found Hampden House, it just seemed perfect and we had that ‘feeling’, especially having viewed other venues first. It’s private, traditional and a beautiful location.
What sort of experience do you want your guests to have?
We’d like them to enjoy the day as much as us and just relax, have fun and be happy! So much effort has gone into planning the wedding, so we really do hope that they have a great time.
Can you describe some of the details and stylings, does your wedding have a theme?
No theme in particular, the colour scheme is very pale pastel/misty blue. There will be flowers for decoration on the tables and in the ceremony hall. We are also setting up 5 photos in the Dining Hall which would be great to catch on camera – they are our own parents and grandparents’ wedding photos and just add that special family touch. It will be quite a traditional wedding, hopefully filled with lots of laughter, happiness and fun!
What was the hardest decision during the planning?
Not so much a decision, but generally organising the food and drink for all of it as there’s so much involved. Making the playlist was lots of fun but also tricky narrowing it down!
What advice would you give to couples planning a wedding?
Keep a spreadsheet and track everything you spend, this has really helped us keep in line with our budget.
