Irene & Dave | Richmond Park wedding
10Th May 2019 Irene & Dave Richmond Park wedding video
Our wedding story
How did you guys meet?
Dave: We were chatting online (like all trendy millennials). I wasn’t sure if Irene’s profile photos were real because she looked gorgeous. When we arranged for our first date and she was 20 minutes late (5 according to Irene!) I was never so happy to have waited and I was really happy to see that the photos were true to life. We shared a bottle of Pinot Noir over stories and I realised I loved her personality as much as her beauty. She agreed to meet me again so I must have been telling some good ones.
Irene: I’d had a couple of questionable first dates recently, and was about to take a break from the whole scene. But I had already arranged to meet Dave so I decided I’d keep that date and then take a break. I always get nervous at first dates, and this was no different. But as soon as I met Dave it just clicked. I fell for his happy, chatty character and was swept off my feet over the next few months. Turns out I was taking a permanent break from first dates!
Tell me a bit about the two of you, what do you guys do? How do you spend your time?
Dave is a software engineer who works at home and enjoys Richmond on his lunch breaks. Irene is a nurse who works in Kings College Hospital. We both have weekends off and love hanging out together, going for strolls, eating ice cream, trying new coffee shops, going to the movies or out for brunch/ dinner. We both love to exercise, Irene in the gym or running by the river, and Dave doing longer runs through the park. During the week in the evenings we enjoy catching up and then unwinding in front of a good show while eating something delicious that Irene has baked.
How did the proposal go down? (all the gushy details, I love this bit!)
I’d been planning it for awhile and started to save for a ring after chatting to a friend who was doing the same. Luckily I had enough saved just before Christmas (which didn’t get me out of getting a Christmas present also). So on our last weekend before the holidays I got up in the middle of the night and rearranged the furniture in the sitting room very quietly and created a path of heart shaped tea lights and red rose petals from the door to the couch, where I had a photobook waiting which covered our journey together. Then I went back to bed and at 8am (she’s not a morning person, I was very brave) woke Irene, and told her she had a time sensitive Christmas present (which was basically the tea lights were about to go out!) to open. She was a bit reluctant at first but after a little convincing she got out of bed. When she opened the door I’m not sure it had sunk in what was happening. I think the sight of just the book confused her. She didn’t actually realise it was going to be a proposal until she got to the second last page which said I have a question to ask you. Up until then she thought I was taking the piss out of some romcoms we had watched recently and that she had been slagging the cheesiness of. She then started to cry as I got down on one knee to ask her to marry me and she immediately said yes.
How did you choose your wedding venue(s)?
The Richmond Hill hotel was the first place we viewed but Irene wasn’t sure about it. After then looking a little further afield, she realised what a gem it was and after a second viewing and seeing the amazing views at the top of Richmond hill, we decided a Richmond Park wedding was perfect for us. Being close to the waterfront we also thought would be great for photos/video.
What sort of experience do you want your guests to have?
We’d like a relaxed and chilled out day for our guests where they get to all catch up and see the beautiful local area we live in.
Can you describe some of the details and stylings, does your wedding have a theme?
We haven’t chosen a theme but the bridesmaids dresses are a knee length mint green and after much searching the groomsmen will have matching ties to go with their navy suits. Everything else Irene has kept simple. We’ve gone with dusty pink flowers for the bouquets and table arrangements.
What was the hardest decision during the planning?
Definitely the guest list.
