David & Nichola Notley Abbey Wedding Video, 20th of June 2014
In all my years of creating wedding video Oxfordshire I’ve yet to find a venue I like more than Notley Abbey. This Bijou run hotel offers a bride and groom an amazing setting for a special event, and David and Nichola McDonnell couldn’t have hoped for more perfect conditions when they tied the knot on an unforgettable summer’s day.
The couple exchanged vows under a brilliantly blue sky in an outdoor ceremony in front of their closest family and friends, with the rustic brick arbour and serried rows of white wooden chairs accenting the immaculately manicured gardens. Nichola looked gorgeous in a strapless Berketex dress with sweetheart neckline. The waterfall effect of the tiered ruffles on her skirt was echoed in the full, flowing bouquet created by Murphy’s Lilies. Her bridesmaids wore regal purple NABBD gowns which reflected the colour of the lavender lined paths. It was a very traditional English garden wedding for a couple who met while travelling in Vietnam, and everything was ideal for me to get the shots I needed for their wedding video Thame.
After the register had been signed, guests tucked into sparkling wine and canapés while wedding photographer Anne Butcher and I did our stuff. With giant chess on the lawn and loads of space, there was plenty to keep the youngest guests occupied. Once the remains the delicious meal had been cleared away it was time for David’s speech in honour of his bride. His voice cracked as he described how he didn’t think he was the settling down type until he met Nichola, and it was clear to everyone exactly how important she was to him. Energetic dancing ensued with guests partying late into the afternoon.
Nichola and David’s garden wedding had a warm friendly feel: elegant without being pretentious and formal without being stuffy. It was a delight to film them on such a wonderful occasion.
